BRENTWOOD, N.Y. (1010 WINS) – A man was shot and killed by Suffolk County Police on Thursday night after authorities say he pulled a gun on two officers during a foot chase.

The officers were in a marked police vehicle when they pulled the man over in the parking lot of the Brentwood Long Island Rail Road station around 10:20 p.m., police said.

That’s when the man took off on foot with a backpack and the officers gave chase, according to police.

They pursued the man down Suffolk Avenue before deploying a taser on him in front of 908 Suffolk Ave. Police say the taser was ineffective and the man pulled out a handgun.

Officers opened fire, striking the man, who died at the scene, police said.

The man has not been identified. Police said a gun that was in his possession was recovered at the scene.

Neither of the officers were injured in the shooting.

The Suffolk County Police homicide squad is investigating.
