Police seek man in connection to attempted rape in Brooklyn

NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- Police are searching for a man in connection to an attempted rape that occurred in Brooklyn over the weekend.

Officials say on March 1, at 4 a.m., a 30-year-old woman was walking home near Saint James Place and Lefferts Place in the Clinton Hill section, when the suspect approached her from behind then punched her in the head causing her to fall to the ground. 

The man continued to punch the victim and attempted to sexually assault her as she lay on the ground, according to authorities.

Police say the victim fought back and the male n fled with the victim's backpack, northbound on Saint James Place towards Fulton Street.

The victim sustained a laceration to the head and bruising and swelling about the head and neck and was taken to an area hospital, where she was treated and released.

The suspect is described as a male, 30-40 years of age, dark complexion, last seen wearing a light gray hooded sweatshirt, baseball cap, dark colored jacket with light-colored fur on the collar, wrists and bottom of the jacket, blue jeans and sneakers.
