NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- The NYPD is asking for the public's assistance in identifying the male who allegedly groped a 23-year-old female as she was sitting on the front steps of her building on the Lower East Side.

Reports say on March 30, the suspect approached the victim and initiated a conversation at her residence located in the vicinity of Forsythe Avenue and Grand Street.

The individual began to grope her on the stairs and, when the other residents opened the door to exit the building, police say he led her into her apartment where he sexually assaulted her.

The suspect fled from the victim's bedroom when he was confronted by the roommate when she returned home.

The suspect wanted for questioning is described as a Hispanic male, 5'8"and 150 pounds.

He was last seen wearing a black Adidas sweatshirt.

Anyone with information in regard to this incident is asked to call the NYPD's Crime Stoppers Hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477).
