NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- Cops in Brooklyn responded to a call of a burglary in progress Monday night but by the time they got to scene in Ditmas Park it was a murder case.

Officers found the body of 66-year-old Jeremy Safran, a psychologist and professor at the New School, in the basement of a home on Stratford Road. He had apparently been beaten with a hammer.

After a further search of the basement, cops found a 28-year-old man, whose name has not been released, hiding in a closet. He was arrested and charges are pending.
