Police investigate after LI woman dies in apparent drowning

NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- Suffolk County Police Homicide Squad detectives are investigating the drowning death of a woman on Long Island on Monday.

At approximately 1:50 p.m., officers responded to a 911 call of someone floating in the water at the Great South Bay in Lindenhurst.

Vita LaValle, 58, was found unresponsive and pulled from the water by a Good Samaritan on a boat, officials said.

LaValle was pronounced dead at the scene by a physician assistant from the Office of the Suffolk County Medical Examiner.

No criminality is suspected, police said.
