NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- Police have caught a man who broke into a Brooklyn apartment and raped an 11-year-old girl Wednesday.

Julio Ayala, 18, was arrested at around 2 p.m. Saturday, after a police chase on foot ended at a construction site on Flatbush Avenue.

Authorities had to block off the street where Ayala, a suspected member of MS-13, was arrested when crowds of people gathered to cheer on the officers.

Police said Ayala broke into the girl’s second-floor bedroom at 11:30 p.m. in the Prospect Lefferts Garden section of the borough.

The 11-year-old victim was asleep when the man assaulted her, police said. She woke up and cried out for her parents and the man fled the room through the open window.

The victim’s parents called 911 and EMS transported the girl to a nearby hospital in stable condition.

Surveillance video was later released by police showing the attacker trying to conceal himself with a sweater after the incident, on Flatbush Avenue and Parkside Avenue. A second clip later showed him casually walking away near Ocean Avenue and Church Avenue.

Ayala, who lives near Prospect Park, was hit with several charges including rape, burglary and committing a criminal sex act. He was expected to be arraigned Sunday.
