FREEPORT, N.Y. (1010 WINS) -- Police have charged a man in an especially violent rape case on Long Island.

Ever Martinez Reyes, 24, was taken into custody by Nassau County Police for the vicious attack on a woman last week.

Martinez Reyes allegedly followed the 36-year-old victim to her home on Parsons Avenue around 1:30 a.m.

He knocked her out and dragged her to a park across the street, where he raped her, according to police.

"She woke up, he knocked her out again viciously, and then continued to assault her," Nassau County Police Commissioner Patrick Ryder said at a press conference Saturday.

Martinez Reyes came to the U.S. in 2010, when he was 16 years old, but was deported, police say. In 2014, he crossed the border again, taking up residence in Freeport as a landscape day laborer.

Police say he was planning to flee back to El Salvador, but someone in the community recognized him in surveillance video and contacted authorities, who nabbed him.

The woman is recovering from the assault.
