Police arrest LI woman after allegedly threatening other drivers with a hammer

NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- Nassau County police arrested A Long Island woman Sunday night after she allegedly threatened other drivers with a hammer.

According to detectives, on March 30, at 10:30 a.m., Kari Fletcher, was speeding and weaving while driving her black BMW X5 southbound on Elmont Road and passed the victim's vehicle. 

An argument ensued when the victim and suspect were stopped at a traffic light at Elmont Road and Linden Boulevard.

Fletcher allegedly pulled her vehicle in front of the other woman’s car, blocking her from leaving and then got out and threatened the woman with a hammer, police said.

Eventually Fletcher took off, and although no one was hurt, the victim told authorities she feared for her 8-year-old daughter, who was sitting in the backseat.

The suspect allegedly threatened another victim on April 10 at a Checkers restaurant located on Hempstead Turnpike.

Officials said Fletcher became infurated while in the drive-through line and wielded the hammer again.

The victim and a witness locked themselves inside the restaurant until Fletcher left reports say.

Following an investigation, Fletcher was arrested in her Elmont home and charged with two counts of  criminal possession of a weapon and two counts of menacing.
