NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- The NYPD says a 42-year-old woman was killed by a hit-and-run driver in Staten Island Friday night.

Police say that at around 9 p.m., a dark-colored SUV struck the victim, identified as Heribert Ramirez, on the corner of Bay Street and Grant Street.

Ramirez reportedly was thrown over 100 feet and landed underneath a parked car. The driver of the vehicle fled the scene and Ramirez was left unconscious and unresponsive with severe body trauma, lying on the roadway, according to police.

EMS took Ramirez to Richmond University Medical Center but she didn’t survive.

A police investigation found that the SUV was speeding and was attempting to pass another car when the driver lost control and hit the woman, who was standing on the pedestrian area in the center median.

Police say the driver was last seen making a right on Clinton Street. No description of the SUV or driver was made available and the investigation is ongoing.
