MIDDLE ISLAND, N.Y. (1010 WINS) – Police say a crash involving a stolen SUV killed three people, including a couple in their 70s, and hurt two others on Long Island Saturday night.

Just before midnight, Suffolk Police say an officer saw a Nissan SUV that had been reported stolen last week skip a stop sign on Main Street in Yaphank.

The officer tried to pull the SUV over, but the Nissan sped off and was going west on Middle Country Road when it hit a Honda CRV that was turning onto Birchwood Park Drive.

The Honda driver, a 74-year-old man, and his 71-year-old wife were killed, police say.

A 16-year-old passenger in the Nissan was also killed.

All three victims were pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the Nissan, a 17-year-old identified as Nahriek Belford of Bellport, and another passenger in the vehicle were taken to a hospital.

Belford is charged with one count of reckless endangerment and is expected to face more charges.

No arraignment date has been set.

Another person was killed in Shirley early Sunday morning in a collision involving a Jeep and a Toyota on the William Floyd Parkway.

Police say the Jeep was heading south when it was rear-ended by the Toyota, causing the Jeep to burst into flames.

The driver of the Jeep, who has not been identified, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the Toyota, a 29-year-old from Shirley, was taken to Stony Brook University Hospital with serious injuries.
