The Phillies Demoted the Pitcher Who Won Their Easiest Game of the Year

PHILADELPHIA (94WIP) -- The Philadelphia Phillies sent starting pitcher Nick Pivetta down to the minor leagues on Wednesday. Jerad Eickhoff will take his place in the rotation.

Pivetta, 26, is 2-1 with 8.35 ERA in four starts this season. He's allowed five homers and 31 hits in 18.1 innings.

Pivetta had one of his better outings Tuesday night in a 14-3 laugher over the New York Mets, allowing three runs in five innings to earn the win. He was shelled in his prior start, allowing seven earned runs in just 3.2 innings on April 10 against the Washington Nationals.

The move may seem like a quick one after just four starts, but GM Matt Klentak says "every game matters" this season

Eickhoff, 28, came on in relief of Pivetta on Tuesday night in his first appearance of the season. He allowed just three hits in four shutout innings of relief, striking out six.
