NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- Organ, eye and tissue donors along with recipients and families came together at St. Patrick's Cathedral on Saturday to celebrate the gift of life.

"I was diagnosed with PSC which is primary sclerosing cholangitis," Andy Bratton said.

It's a progressive liver and galbladder disease. Andy was diagnosed in 2008 and the prognosis was grim.

"It's a progressive disease, that eventually you have to have a new liver. There is no cure," he said.

His only option was a liver transplant.

"Can I remain well enough to receive a liver?" he said.

After a 10 year wait that transplant happened this year.

"Overwhelming, it's a call that you try to prepare for day and night," he said.

On Saturday at St. Patrick's he joined other recipients and their families to give thanks for the gift of life.
