NEW YORK (1010 WINS/AP) -- Opening day was a success forthe Mets.

The Mets beat the St. Louis Cardinals at home 9-4.

Noah Syndergaard took the mound for the Mets against the Cardinals and pitched a great game. In fact, he became only the second pitcher in Mets history to record double-digit strikeouts on opening day.

Meanwhile, the Yankees beat the Blue Jays 6-1 in Toronto with the help of two of baseball's best sluggers. Aaron Judge and newcomer Giancarlo Stanton are batting second and third in Toronto.

Stanton did not disappoint: In his first at bat as a Yankee, he hit a laser home run.
