NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- An NYPD officer was pinned between two cars during a routine traffic stop Tuesday evening on the Lower East Side, officials say.

The officer in an unmarked police vehicle had pulled over a car on East Houston between Avenue C and Avenue D when a speeding van came struck the police cruiser from behind, authorities said.

That collision left the officer stuck between his vehicle and the one he pulled over.

The van driver fled the scene but was caught a few blocks by other officers and taken into custody.

The officer suffered a leg injury and was taken to Bellevue Hospital. He was listed in serious but stable condition, according to police.
