NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- Officials charged an off-duty NYPD sergeant for fleeing the scene after he hit a bicyclist in Brooklyn on Wednesday and shoved another man who confronted him about the incident.

Authorities say at around 4:15 p.m., Sgt. John Vega, 37, was driving in his personal vehicle at 5th Avenue and 57th Street in the Sunset Park section when he struck a 52-year-old man riding a bicycle.

According to police, the bicyclist and Vega had a conversation where he said that he was OK  when another man, 50, began to argue with the officer about the incident.

Officials say that Vega then allegedly pushed the man and took off.

The man suffered minor injuries.

Vega was arrested just after 4 a.m. on Thursday and charged with assault and leaving the scene of an accident according to authorities.
