Ocasio-Cortez says she's taking time off for 'self-care'

December 18, 2018 - 8:27 am

NEW YORK (1010 WINS) – Congresswoman-elect Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez hasn’t started her new job yet, but she says she needs some time off to take care of herself before she is sworn in to Congress.

“For working people, immigrants, & the poor, self-care is political - not because we want it to be, but bc of the inevitable shaming of someone doing a face mask while financially stressed,” she wrote on Twitter.

She went on to say she’d be keeping people updated on Instagram.

“I’ve decided to take others along with me on IG as I learn what self-care even means and why it’s important,” she wrote.

Before she ran for Congress, Ocasio-Cortez says she did yoga several times a week, ate nutritiously and relaxed, but all that was history when her campaign got going.

“Before the campaign, I used to practice yoga 3-4x/week, eat nutritiously, read and write for leisure,” Ocasio-Cortez wrote in an Instagram story. “As soon as everything kicked up, that all went out the window. I went from doing yoga and making wild rice and salmon dinners to eating fast food for dinner and falling asleep in my jeans and makeup.”

Ocasio-Cortez will represent New York’s 14th district in the U.S. House of Representatives once she’s sworn in next month.
