NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- An NYPD truck driver died after suffering a medical episode Monday evening in Brooklyn, police said.

Officials said the incident occurred at about 5:50 p.m. in Marine Park.

61-year-old Anthony Edgehill was driving south on Flatbush Avenue near Avenue R in his tow truck, when he suffered a possible medical episode causing him to fail to properly navigate the roadway.

He mounted the curb on the west side of Flatbush Avenue, at a slow rate of speed, before coming to a rest and striking a tree.

When police responded to the scene, they discovered the victim unconscious and unresponsive, within the driver's seat of a 2015 Ford F550 NYPD tow truck.

Edgehill was transported to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The investigation is ongoing.
