NYPD seeks man who stole backpack from sleeping straphanger

NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- The NYPD is seeking a man who snatched a backpack from a subway passenger who was sleeping, and subsequently demanded money for the victim's car title, which was in the bag.

The incident occurred on a northbound 2 train in the Bronx.

Police said in a news release, "A 19-year-old male victim was asleep at which time the male individual did remove his backpack containing a Macbook Pro laptop, a car title and various credit cards. The victim was later contacted via Facebook demanding $500 for the return of his car title.

The individual was identified as Jose Muniz, 28, of the Bronx.

He is described as Hispanic, 5'5" tall, weighing 130 lbs., with short black hair and brown eyes.
