NYPD scraps over a dozen cars due to mold

NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- The back of a police car never smells good, but over a dozen cop cars had to be junked for more than just their stench.

Fourteen cars that were parked at a NYPD garage in Manhattan were ordered condemned on Aug. 9, after mold began growing inside the vehicles, according to a report from The New York Post.

One car was so badly damaged it reportedly had mold growing all over the driver’s seat, the steering wheel and the armrest.

“If a police officer was given a car with mold in it, that is unacceptable,” NYPD spokesman J. Peter Donald told the Post.
