NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- 'The call is yours,' says a new NYPD campaign that is encouraging sex assualt victims to come forward.

"We're open for business. No crime is too far in the past. Every single one will be investigated," Deputy Commissioner Susan Herman said.

Herman said posters, billboards, and flyers on college campuses will provide information on the Special Victims Division hotline.

Chief Dermont Shea acknowledged it is not always an easy decision to come forward.

"When you look at the increase in rapes through the first quarter of 2018, it's close to 35 percent that did not ovver in 2018," Shea said.

The unit has additional and better trained cops to handle the sensitive cases.
