NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- A New York City cop is being hailed as a hero after rescuing a tourist in Midtown.

Geraldine McKenna was $20 short of what she needed to afford Hamilton tickets, after spending days waiting in line. She thought she had blown her chance to see the musical, until Officer Ricardo DiCandia arrived on the scene, the New York Post reports.

She was so happy, she wrote a note to the mayor's office.

“We were totally overjoyed when he opened his wallet and just handed us $20,” she wrote. ”My daughter was crying. It was without a doubt the best night and would not have been possible without Officer DiCandia's generosity and kindness.”

McKenna had been waiting for four days, according to social media posts by the NYPD.
