NEW YORK (1010 WINS/AP) -- Federal authorities are investigating a New York City police officer suspected of buying child pornography.

Search warrants filed this week show Homeland Security Investigations opened an inquiry into Timothy Martinez's online activity.

Agents seized his computer after reviewing explicit messages he allegedly exchanged with a person identified on Twitter as a 14-year-old girl.

Investigators also obtained a warrant to search Martinez's Staten Island residence.

According to court filings, Martinez made at least three online payments last year to the person in exchange for pornographic images.

The documents add that Martinez is on military leave from the New York Police Department.

It was not immediately clear whether he has an attorney who could comment on his behalf.

Messages seeking comment were left Friday for Martinez and the NYPD.
