NYPD: Counterterrorism officers remain on 'high alert ... will be deployed' at city's 'critical locations'

    NEW YORK (1010 WINS) – The NYPD said Wednesday that its counterterrorism officers remain on “high alert” amid the coronavirus pandemic.

    The department tweeted that “although there aren’t many people moving around NYC” because of the outbreak, its counterterrorism officers “will be deployed throughout the city at critical locations protecting New York’s infrastructure.”

    The NYPD has lost at least 20 of its uniformed and civilian members to coronavirus in the past month.

    Some 2,156 officer have tested positive for the virus and at least 6,274 officers—or about 17.4 percent of the force—are currently out sick, a source told CNN on Wednesday.
