NYPD closes sex assault cases against Mario Batali, he won't be charged

NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- Celebrity chef Mario Batali has snagged a legal victory: He will not be charged for two alleged sexual assaults in New York City, TMZ is reporting, citing unnamed law enforcement sources.

Investigators were reportedly unable to find any witnesses or evidence to support the claims made by the accusers, prompting the NYPD to close the cases.

Last March a woman claimed she was raped by Batali in 2004 at his restaurant in the West Village.

And another woman claimed she was sexually assaulted by Batali at his Spotted Pig restaurant in 2005.

Both the NYPD nor Manhattan District Attorney's Office declined to comment on the cases, according to TMZ.
