NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- The NYPD say a man linked to the armed robbery of a Bronx bodega died this morning when he was chased into a subway station and fell onto the third rail.

Authorities say they gave chase to a suspect fleeing from a shop located on Jerome Avenue shortly after midnight Sunday. They say he entered the Fordham Road station on the southbound side of the number 4 train.

He attempted to jump onto the tracks in order to reach the northbound platform but landed on the track’s third rail as a train pulled into the station, police said.

While he was electrocuted by the third rail, cops say the train passed over him and his body was not struck. He was later pronounced dead at the scene.

An investigation is still ongoing and it’s not clear if the bodega robbery was completed or just attempted. Police say the suspect did have a gun on him.
