NYC DOT worker accidentally run over and killed by coworker: officials

NEW YORK (1010 WINS) – A New York City Department of Transportation worker is dead after being accidentally run over by a coworker while repaving a Manhattan street, according to police.

The victim, 44-year-old Eduardo Calleabril was standing on East 88th Street on the Upper East Side, when his 35-year-old coworker backed over him in a DOT truck, not realizing there was someone behind him.

The victim was taken to New York Presbyterian where he was pronounced dead.

The driver was brought in for questioning by the NYPD, but the death is being treated as an accident.

"Tragic news on the Upper East Side this morning.," Mayor Bill de Blasio said in a tweet Tuesday. "@NYC_DOT veteran Eduardo Calleabril was struck by a vehicle and lost his life while working with a resurfacing crew. Please keep his family in your thoughts today. We’re undertaking a full investigation into how this happened."
