NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- A New York Times senior editor has apologized for writing "offensive" tweets, dating back as far as a decade, that target Jews, Native Americans and Indian-Americans -- but the Times is still "reviewing next steps" and a congressman is calling for the staffer's firing.

"I have deleted tweets from a decade ago that are offensive. I am deeply sorry," tweeted Tom Wright-Piersanti, who has been with the Times since July 2014, Thursday morning.

New York Times spokeswoman Danielle Rhoades Ha told 1010 WINS, "We are aware of these tweets, which are a clear violation of our standards. We are reviewing next steps."

Rep. Lee Zeldin of Long Island, said on Fox News Thursday, “An editor from the New York Times is scrubbing his (Twitter) account, this guy Tom Wright-Piersanti, because he was self-describing himself as an antisemite and he was going after Jews and others,” remarked Zeldin, who is Jewish, before adding that the journalist “should be fired.”

Some of the tweets have since been deleted, and others remain:

"I was going to say 'Crappy Jew Year,' but one of my resolutions is to be less anti-Semitic. So… HAPPY Jew Year. You Jews," he tweeted in a now-deleted post from Jan. 1, 2010.

Another now-deleted tweet he wrote targeting Jews features a Chanukah menorah on the roof of a car, with the caption, "Who called the Jew-police?"

Wright-Piersanti, who worked at New Jersey's Star-Ledger prior to joining the Times, also targeted "Indians" -- it seems he's referring to Native Americans, as well as Indian-Americans -- in a series of tweets over a span of a couple of years:

The tweets about "Indians" have not been deleted, as of Thursday morning, though.

"There are four indian guys with mohawks in this one class, and each one is a douche in his own awful way. I hate mohawk Indians," he wrote on Dec. 8, 2009.

Five minutes later on Dec. 8, 2009, he wrote, "I don't hate Mohawk Indians, though. I love those guys. I just hate Indians with mohawks. Different indians, different mohawks."

Later that month, on Dec. 16, 2009, he tweeted, "Mohawked Indian Guess employee, to @snitkin: 'Yo, you like these watches? I sell 'em under the table, if you know what I mean.'"

The previous month, on Nov. 24, 2009, he wrote, "Two high-voiced indian guys keep calling each other 'dawg' and they aren't doing it as a joke. Fuck THAT shit."

About a year earlier, on Dec. 4, 2008, he tweeted: “Want to see dozens of Indian girls grind all over each other? Go to the Golden Rail Pub in New Brunswick, New Jersey.”

Wright-Piersanti also used mysognotic language in a Dec. 26, 2009, now-deleted tweet, writing, "Horticulture sounds like Whore-tit-culture, those sick fuck farmers are probably whacking off onto their crops right now."
