NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- New York state has extended its special enrollment period for uninsured residents through the end of the year, Gov. Andrew Cuomo said Wednesday.

New Yorkers without insurance will be able to apply for coverage through the state’s insurance marketplace, New York State of Health, or directly through insurers through Dec. 31, Cuomo said in a release.

“The COVID-19 pandemic is far from over, and it’s more important than ever for New Yorkers to have access to high-quality, affordable health insurance,” he said. “New York has resources available to help those who need coverage during this difficult time, and anyone who doesn’t currently have health insurance, regardless of the reason, should visit NY State of Health and enroll today.”

Coverage start dates will vary by enrollment date, the governor’s release notes. More information is available on NY State of Health’s website.
