NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- New York election officials on Wednesday will decide whether or not to hold the state’s Democratic presidential primary, according to a report.

The state’s election officials will vote on the matter on Wednesday, the New York Times reported. The primary is currently scheduled for June 23.

Bernie Sanders’ decision to suspend his presidential campaign and the COVID-19 pandemic are both factors officials have been weighing prior to the vote.

New York state Democratic Democratic Party chairman Jay Jacobs supports canceling the presidential primary, “while still holding primaries for congressional, state legislative and local offices,” the Times reported.

“The more we can do to reduce the risk factor of running the primary, the smarter I think that is,” Jacobs told the outlet.
