‘Notifica’ App Lets Undocumented Immigrants Reach Out To Family During ICE Raids

April 28, 2018 - 3:55 pm

NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- An app created by a citizens group has a panic button for undocumented immigrants in the event of a raid.

The app notifies relatives and offers legal advice to those worried about being picked up by Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

It's called Notifica and was launched by United We Dream; which calls itself the largest immigrant youth led network in the U.S.

Ambar Pinto is the group's deportation defense hotline manager. Through an interpreter she said the app's messages will get to friends, relatives and lawyers in seconds.

"You can let them know if you're being detained by an immigration officer or state police and you can let them know where it's happening. There's a section with information about your rights and it also connects you with our help line," she said.

Makers of the app said it won't stop deportations, but it does provide them with a way to let relatives know if they are ever detained.
