NEW YORK (1010 WINS) – A plane hit birds as it was landing at JFK Airport on Saturday evening, but the aircraft was able to land safely and no one was injured.

Delta Airlines tells 1010 WINS that the flight from Europe struck the birds as it approached the busy airport in Queens.

“Delta flight 273 operating from Lisbon, Portugal encountered birds upon descent in to New York-JFK. The flight landed safely and taxied to the gate for maintenance evaluation,” Delta said in a statement.

There were 164 customers on board at the time and all of them deplaned normally, the airlines aid.

The plane reportedly suffered serious damage in the bird strike, according to ABC 7.
