NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- It's going to be a dry ride on Tri-State train lines this weekend when SantaCon sleighs into town.

The LIRR, NJ Transit, and Metro North have all issued alcohol bans on Saturday and Sunday. NJ Transit took things even further; they've implemented an across the board beverage ban on all trains and buses including light rail.

An NJ Transit spokesperson told Gothamist the ban comes as they "found in the past that many people have alcohol in water bottles and cups." Spokesperson Nancy Schneider said anyone caught violating the policy will be given an open container violation.

Santa Con will kick off at 10 a.m. on Saturday. The website for the event implores participants to "respect the city" and "be responsible for your own actions."

Still, the MTA isn't taking any chances.

"MTA police officers will be on duty at Penn Station, Grand Central Terminal and stations throughout the region, as well as on trains to enforce this restriction," the MTA said in a statement, "The police will confiscate alcoholic beverages and issue summonses carrying fines or imprisonment. Violators may also be subject to removal from the train or station by police."

Metro North and LIRR will ban alcohol from noon on Saturday Dec, 8, until noon on Sunday Dec, 9.

Of course if it was up to some city lawmakers the whole day would evaporate.
