NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- A private sanitation truck is believed to be the vehicle that struck and killed a woman in a hit-and-run in Brooklyn Thursday morning.

The woman, in her 60s, was hit by the garbage truck at around 4 a.m., west of Bay Parkway and 86th Street. Her body was dragged to the intersection of Bay Parkway and was cut in two.

Trevor, who works in the area, told 1010 WINS' Samantha Liebman it is very dangerous. "People are speeding, they're running lights - they're turning at wrong turns."

Speeding may have been a factor, Liebman reported.

David Reyes, who was on his way to work in the area, saw the aftermath. "There was what looked like two bodies at first but then one of the police officers told us the body was severed in half because of the impact."

The truck fled the scene. Police said the driver just kept going eastbound, possibly unaware they had hit anyone, Liebman reported.
