Video Shows Man Saying He'll Call Immigration On Midtown Restaurant Workers Speaking Spanish

NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- In a racist rant caught on video, a white man threatened to call U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement on staffers at a Midtown restaurant because they were speaking Spanish.

As 1010 WINS’ Al Jones reported, the viral rant started with a complaint about workers about the Fresh Kitchen on Madison Avenue speaking Spanish.

"Your staff is speaking Spanish to customers when they should be speaking English," the man tells the manager. "Every person I listen to, he spoke it, he spoke it, she's speaking it. It's America. Your staff should be speaking English."

It ended with a threat to call immigration.

"I will be following up and my guess is they're not documented so my next call is to ICE to have each one of them kicked out of my country," the man says. "If they have the balls to come here and live off of my money -- I pay for their welfare, I pay for their ability to be here, the least they could do is speak English. You understand? If you intend on running a place in Midtown Manhattan your staff should be speaking English, not Spanish."

The belligerent customer demanded that the manager instruct his employees to speak English in his country.

The manager calmly handled it, while the angry employees stormed out.

The video caught Mayor Bill de Blasio’s attention. He tweeted, “New Yorkers speak more than 200 languages, and they are all welcome here.”
