NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- One day after reports emerged that Michael Bloomberg may be entering the 2020 presidential race as a Democrat, President Trump dubbed the former New York City mayor "Little Michael" and dismissed his chances.

"I've known Michael Bloomberg for a long time," Trump told reporters on the White House lawn. "He became just a nothing. He was really a nothing. He's not going to do well, but I think he's going to hurt Biden, actually. But he doesn't have the magic to do well. Little Michael will fail."

"He will not do very well," he added. "And if he did, I'd be happy. There is nobody I'd rather run against than Little Michael, that I can tell you."

Bloomberg,77, is expected to file paperwork in Alabama by the end of this week to get himself on the state's primary election ballot, a spokesman reportedly said Thursday. It's a strong indication that he might be joining the crowded Democratic primary field.

According to CNBC, Bloomberg had "indicated to associates in recent weeks that Joe Biden's recent struggles against Sen. Elizabeth Warren are making him rethink his decision to stay out of the 2020 Democratic primary."

Sources told CNBC at the time that Bloomberg would likely only enter the race if Biden, 76, drops out early from the Democratic primary.

According to reports, he was planning to spend more than $100 million on a campaign if he ran.
