WASHINGTON (1010 WINS) -- Saying she will endure forever, President Donald Trump on Tuesday honored late NYPD Officer Miosotis Familia.

Trump also hosted Familia’s family onstage Tuesday morning at an emotional ceremony outside the U.S. Capitol.

Familia, 48, was on patrol not far from Yankee Stadium last year when she was shot and killed during an ambush in July of last year. Police said Alexander John Bonds, 34, walked up to Familia’s mobile command unit vehicle and shot her through the window at close range as she sat in the passenger seat.

“An entire nation wrapped its arms, and they have wrapped their arms right around you,” Trump told Familia’s family. “They love you. They’re praying for you. They’re grieving with you, and pledging to you that we will never forget our heroes, ever.”

Trump’s remarks came as part of the annual Peace Officers’ Memorial Service.

He also used his speech to call on Congress to do more to secure America’s borders, and stop the policies of so-called sanctuary cities.
