NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- A Long Island woman is pleading with the thieves who broke into her home to return a very valuable box.

The box contains the remains of the 82-year-old Bernice Immordino’s husband.

On Oct. 29, thieves entered Immordino’s North Bellmore home around 12:45 p.m.

Immordino told police that when she returned home, her living room and bedroom had been ransacked. In addition to the box containing her husband's ashes, her wallet was also stolen.

Wednesday would have been the couple's 62nd wedding anniversary, 1010 WINS' Al Jones reported. "I would tell them right now that my heart is broken," Immortino told Jones.

"I feel violated," Immortino added.

Authorities are hoping that someone -- a jeweler or pawnshop perhaps -- will recognize the gold-colored box with purple velvet lining and contact them.

Police are asking anyone with information regarding the incident to call Crime Stoppers at 800-244-TIPS. All calls will remain confidential.
