NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- A search was under way Sunday morning after police said a man punched a 5-year-old boy in the face on a subway train in Boerum Hill, Brooklyn.

Police said the boy was with his mother on an outbound G Train near the Bergen Street station, when the man came up and punched the boy in the face.

The boy suffered bruising, as well as swelling on the left side of his face, police said.

The man taunted the boy and then got off the train at Bergen Street, police said. The boy was taken to NYU Langone Health Cobble Hill and was treated and released, police said.

The suspect was described as a black male about 20 years old with short black hair and a mustache. He stood about 6 feet tall and weighed about 120 pounds, with a medium build.

He was last seen wearing an olive-colored long-sleeve shirt, a black jacket, black sneakers, and beige cargo pants.

Police have released photos taken by an eyewitness.
