March 18, 2018 - 5:59 pm

NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- Another correction officer has been attacked at the jail complex on Rikers Island.

The incident happened on Saturday night at the Otis Bantum Correctional Center at Rikers, according to the New York Daily News.

Authorities said a murder suspect being held at the jail threw hot water on an officer and punched him in the face. The suspect was identified in the Daily News as J’von Johnson.

In a statement, Department of Corrections Deputy Commissioner of Public Information Peter Thorne said: “Outrageous attacks like this, on an officer just doing his job helping keep the rest of us safe, are exactly why this inmate was immediately placed into more restrictive custody. This inmate will also be arrested and face serious charges.”

The officer was recovering Sunday from a broken nose and burns, authorities said.
