April 22, 2018 - 4:54 pm

NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- U.S. Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand (D-New York) has gone beyond her backing of legalized marijuana and expunging marijuana possession convictions.

She is now calling on Attorney General Jeff Sessions to to meet with New Yorkers who have been derailed by what she calls the failed federal war on drugs.

The Empire State Democrat held a news conference Sunday afternoon to urge the end of what she terms the Trump-era Department of Justice directive that targets low level, non-violent marijuana possession offenses.

Gillibrand said such cases especially impact communities of color.
