With Gas Prices Rising, Schumer Urges EPA To Abandon Rollback Of Fuel Economy Rule

June 03, 2018 - 3:22 pm

NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- Here’s a number to go with the ever-higher prices at the gas pump – AAA said the per-gallon price is up 31 percent over the past year.

With no immediate relief in sight, Senate Minority Leader Charles Schumer (D-New York) is urging the Environmental Protection Agency to abandon newly-announced Trump administration plans to roll back rules ensuring that cars get at least 50 miles per gallon.

EPA chief Scott Pruitt overturned the rule, which would have imposed the fuel economy standard by 2025.

Schumer said Pruitt is “in bed with the oil companies.”

He said abandoning the fuel economy goal would cost everyone more.
