Faithful Turn Out For Palm Sunday Processions, Services
NEW YORK (1010 WINS/AP) -- A procession was held in Lower Manhattan for Palm Sunday, the start of Holy Week.
The promenade started at St. Paul's Chapel and made its way down Broadway to end at Trinity Church. At the head of the parade, a number of children walked next to a donkey, representing the animal Jesus rode into Jerusalem.
Those in the promenade carried giant palm fronds, as well as smaller palm shoots tied in the form of crosses.
Palm Sunday commemorations were held elsewhere around the world Sunday. At the Vatican, Pope Francis held an open-air mass at St. Peter’s Square.
A day after the March for Our Lives demonstrations against gun violence were held around the U.S., the pope called for young people to raise their voices and keep shouting, and not to let older generations silence their idealism.
