De Blasio Slams Cuomo Over NYCHA Criticisms

NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- Mayor Bill de Blasio slammed Gov. Andrew Cuomo Thursday, after Cuomo issued an emergency order calling for an independent monitor to handle repair work at New York City Housing Authority developments.

“He hadn’t been to a NYCHA development for five years previous to his recent tour. Let’s be real,” de Blasio said.

As 1010 WINS' Sonia Rincon reported, de Blasio said if Cuomo is so interested in NYCHA, why didn’t he make sure state money came through in 2015 and 2017?

“That could have helped us do this work,” he said. “Everything we did here, we did with our own money. We didn’t get any state help.”

The mayor literally stood on the work he was referring to – a new roof among hundreds at NYCHA buildings. Some were just completed and more are to come, with $1.3 billion from the city.

“All this was happening before any action was taken in Albany,” de Blasio said.

That action includes not just money, but a new independent monitor, which the mayor isn’t sure will be helpful.

“We’re still analyzing it,” the mayor said. “We still have to determine what we think it really means.”
