De Blasio: Department Of Education Culture Has Led To 'Inappropriate' Harassment Complaints

NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- In response to revelations that very few sexual harassment complaints at the New York City Department of Education have been substantiated, Mayor Bill de Blasio said Wednesday that some people bring “inappropriate” complaints and it is part of the culture at the department.

As 1010 WINS’ Al Jones reported, only a handful of the hundreds of sexual harassment complaints filed at the Department of Education since 2013 have been substantiated.

In explaining, Mayor de Blasio tiptoed around it.

“Some people inappropriately make complaints for other reasons,” he said.

The mayor said it is part of the Education Department culture.

“I can’t parse out for you who was sincere and who was insincere, and what type of offense. I can’t get there. I can tell you the fact that it’s unfortunately a part of the culture.”

But de Blasio said any complaints filed as retaliation
