JERSEY CITY, N.J. (1010 WINS) -- A baby’s body was discovered in a suitcase in Jersey City Wednesday, near the PATH train tracks not far from the Journal Square station.

As 1010 WINS' Roger Stern reported, the discovery was made in the afternoon – the body of an infant in a suitcase near the PATH tracks underneath the Tonnelle Avenue Bridge.

Karen Hernandez lives nearby and probably speaks for many.

“Who would do that, like, its own child?” she said. “It’s very sad.”

Steven, who is a father, added: “It just touched me, like, to hear that. It’s really sad. Really sad.”

The North Regional Medical Examiner’s office must conduct an autopsy to determine the cause of the baby’s death.
