NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- Firefighters rescued multiple people who found themselves trapped in a burning house in Ozone Park, Queens.

As 1010 WINS’ Roger Stern reported, the fire broke out around 7:47 a.m. Sunday in the house at 101-51 107th St. in Queens.

Ladder Company 142 is based only blocks away, the 51st Battalion chief said crews got to the scene quickly enough to rescue five people. At least four of them were trapped in the attic.

“They had to get a 35-foot portable to the rear of this building, and there’s cars in the way. There’s stuff in the back. They did a really excellent job,” he said.

Amy, who lives across the street, said the speed was remarkable.

“They were here within minutes,” she said.

A young girl was treated for smoke inhalation. Everyone is expected to recover.

The Department of Buildings will investigate whether the house contained an illegal apartment.
