NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- Several homes were destroyed by a five-alarm fire on Staten Island Monday.

The fire began at around 4 p.m. and quickly spread through several connected homes on the 800 block of Rensselear Avenue in Prince's Bay. The fast-moving fire started in one house and quickly spread to others - destroying seven units, 1010 WINS' Al Jones reported.

It was brought under control a few hours later.

Smoke could be seen for miles. Luckily, no serious injuries have been reported.

Neighbors were running over to help each other out, Jones reported.

The FDNY and Mayor Bill de Blasio urged people to avoid the area.
