2 Teens Arrested, Principal Removed After Brooklyn School Sex Assault

April 22, 2018 - 1:20 pm

NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- Two teens have been arrested, and a principal has been removed from her post, in connection with a sexual assault case at It Takes a Village Academy in Brooklyn.

The 14-year-old victim reportedly told administrators last fall he'd been bullied by a group of boys since the start of the school year, but things got worse Nov. 3 when he was attacked in the boys' locker room.

Suspect Santosh Bonito, 17, and other teens were suspended, the New York Daily News reported. But the newspaper reported the incident was not reported to police by education officials – only later, by the victim's mother.

Bonito was arrested April 12, the paper reported. He is facing misdemeanor forcible touching charges.

A 15-year-old was nabbed four days later, the paper said.

The principal, Marina Vinitskaya, has now been removed from her job for failure to report the incident to law enforcement, the newspaper reported.

An Education Department spokesman told the Daily News the school has been assigned additional staffers to beef up safety.
