BAY SHORE, N.Y. (1010 WINS) -- This Mother’s Day, a group of Suffolk County police officers rescued 14 ducklings after they fell into a storm drain in Bay Shore, Long Island.

Around 9:20 a.m., Third Precinct officers Jack Ward and Joseph Bianco were called to Aletta Place after a 911 caller said several ducklings had fallen into the grate and the mother duck was waiting nearby.

Officers Ward and Bianco took off the grate and got four of the ducklings, but the others retreated into the tunnel and became unreachable, police said.

Third Precinct Officer Steven Damico came to the scene and used a duck calling app on his cellphone, which summoned nine more ducklings. But one remained stuck.

Finally, Emergency Service Officer Carmine Pellegrino arrived and retrieved the last duckling with a net.
