NEW YORK (1010 WINS) —A New Rochelle woman died while undergoing plastic surgery in the Dominican Republic.

Alexandra Medina, 33, came down to the country for liposuction surgery after doctors in the United States told her she needed to lose weight first and stopped breathing and died during surgery Friday.

Her sister Maxine David told CBS2, “This doctor was like, you know, no problem, we can do it, we can handle it, we’ve dealt with bigger women and so, you know, come here, and we’ll do it, and it was obviously also cheaper.”

The Dominican clinic claims that the surgery didn’t kill her, but rather a blood clot did.

She is the third American to die undergoing surgery in the country in the past month.

The Dominican Health Minister says a full review will now take place.
